2026-27 Champions League: Who Plays Who in the League Phase
No groups, no double round-robins. All 36 clubs and their eight league-phase opponents — home and away — in one place, plus the kits to wear on matchday.
First: The Format, Without The Jargon
Remember the old Champions League — eight groups of four, each club playing the same three opponents home and away? That format is gone. Since 2024-25 it works like this:
36 teams sit in one single table — there are no groups and no “three-team round robins”. Each club plays exactly eight games: four at home, four away, against eight different opponents. The opponents come from four seeding pots — two from each pot — so every schedule mixes two giants, two mid-tier sides, two rising clubs and two debutants or underdogs. Nobody plays the same team twice.
When the eight matchdays are done, the table decides who moves on: 1st–8th go straight to the Round of 16, 9th–24th enter a two-leg playoff for the remaining spots, and 25th–36th are out. The final is at the Metropolitano in Madrid on June 5, 2027. Matchday one is September 8–10.
One Team’s Eight Games, Worked Example: Arsenal

Read it like this: Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are the two pot-one giants, Dortmund and Real Betis the pot-two sides, Lille and Napoli from pot three, Sabah and Slavia Prague from pot four. Every Arsenal fan gets the big nights at the Emirates — but also a brutal trip to Munich.

Arsenal
Real Madrid at the Emirates, Bayern in Munich, Dortmund at home — the runners-up got no easy week, and a top-eight finish would be very well earned.
Liverpool
Atletico at Anfield and a San Siro trip to Inter headline a draw with a bit of everything — Porto, Club Brugge and Fenerbahce fill out a proper European test.
Man United
Back after two years away, and the return card reads like a greatest hits — Bayern at Old Trafford is already circled in red, with Atletico, Roma and Sporting to follow.
Real Madrid
Inter at the Bernabéu headlines the home list, and the trip to face Arsenal is the glamour tie of the league phase — the white shirt is built for these nights.
Man City
PSG at the Etihad and Rodri’s return to face Barcelona — two blockbusters in the space of eight games, with Napoli and a trip to Lens to keep it honest.
Barcelona
Rodri’s homecoming against Man City and a trip to Paris headline the blaugrana schedule — box-office from matchday one, with a tricky Galatasaray away in between.
Bayern Munich
Arsenal and Man United both have to come to Munich — a heavyweight league phase for the reds, rounded off by trips to Atletico and Lille.
PSG
The two-time defending champs get Barcelona at home and Man City away in their three-peat quest — no rest for the kings.
Inter Milan
Liverpool at the San Siro and a trip to the Bernabéu — Inter’s navy stripes are built for these fixtures, with Dortmund and Feyenoord also on the card.
Borussia Dortmund
The Yellow Wall hosts Inter and Real Betis, with trips to Arsenal and Aston Villa — Dortmund’s iconic yellow is a league-phase highlight.
Atletico Madrid
Bayern and Man United both visit the Metropolitano — a statement league phase for the red-and-white stripes, with a trip to Anfield the headline away day.
Aston Villa
PSG come to Villa Park and there’s a trip to Barcelona — the claret-and-blue are made for nights like these, with Dortmund also on the card.
FC Porto
Man City at the Dragão and Liverpool away headline a proper Champions League return — the blue-and-white home is a classic.
PSV
Atletico visit Eindhoven and the draw serves up a trip to Real Madrid — the red-and-white stripes are a throwback hit this season.
LOSC Lille
Bayern come to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy and there are trips to Arsenal and Roma — the Dogues earned this run.
RB Leipzig
Madrid, Man City and Man United — three giants in eight games. The new away shirt is the pick for the underdog nights.
